The lottery was like a billion dollars tonight and seemed extra annoyingly in my face this evening...it was even top national news...middle east what?...Anyway, I know i posted some time before about it hurting low income individuals...today I was thinking about who actually gets the money...From the nysegov.com website: 2% of NY lottery dollars goes toward "contractor fees" and 3% goes toward "administrative costs"...6% goes to retailers for selling the tickets...51% to the winner and 38% to education...some people feel that maybe education gets sort of shortchanged in lottery states where the budget assumes lottery procedes. Why not just have education be a part of the budget and not some addon gimmick without the all the extra overhead. Of course how could anyone possibly report fairly on the disadvantages of the lottery?...they draw the numbers on the news.
